THE ARTIST
RSTomczak
Slaking his soul’s anxiety for the perfect vision, the perfect scene. Firmly committed. At whatever cost. Faithful to origins, his cultural influences; impossible to topple him with the temptations of the contemporary: decided in his conviction of choices – both subject and style.
Renê Silvio Tomczak is inspired by the great names of painting in the state of Paraná – Alfredo Andersen, Guido Viaro, Arthur Nísio, Theodoro de Bona: impressionism is the basis of his art.
These are in loco artists. It is in the same way that Renê chooses his subjects: you will see him (or not see him), folding easel-case in hand, bearing juice and fruit, for his refreshment – walking, looking, wandering, seeking the perfect view, the perfect scenario. It might take him three hours to find. As he reports it, sometimes he makes so many twists and turns on the back roads that he gets lost. Firmly committed to satisfying the anxiety of his soul.
This is his routine: of dedication, to painting. The result is his gift to us of great landscapes, urban and rural, in watercolor or in oils, but all permeated with hot colors, secure brushstrokes, well-resolved drawing. Scenes that take us to some place in our memory – a place where it’s pleasant to be – transporting us by their delicacy to another time, where living seems to have been easier.
His still lifes and other figures cause the same delight to the eyes – the result of his sensibility, and his harmonic sense of chromatic equilibrium.
Native of Curitiba, born 1964, he initially trained as an engineer, but succumbed to the vocation for art: this took him into two courses of painting at the Escola de Belas Artes of Paraná. There, he came into contact with the great masters, and in the early years he chose his path as a painter.
He has had eleven solo exhibitions, and numerous participations in group exhibitions in Brazil. His works are in some of the principal private collections of art in the south of the country.
“Art” – he says – “is the way in which people who do it see the world, interpret it, and describe it, in accordance with their feeling.”
